Central, Bowie and Irving High. It's been forever, but then it does not seem like it was that long ago. For me, the Facebook thing has been the most rewarding aspect of the computer age.
I just signed up a few months ago. (HA! that was 2008)

I've had lots of ups and downs. The 1970s were good. A couple of marriages - a couple of divorces. I was going to school and landed a job at Roadway Express in 1971. Lots of guys were working there on the weekends and going to school. My wife had a baby in 72 and I wound up with lots of bills so I took a full time job with them.

The pay was great. I made more than my dad or my brother in law (who was a cop in Fort Worth). Lots of guys would leave Roadway after they graduated, then come back in six months because even with a degree, they couldn't do better than those union wages.

I quit going to school thinking I would take it back up soon. Never did. The biggest reason I left that job in 1980 was to get away from my wife's boyfriend.

My dad died in 1981 and I was a train wreck for about five years. I got my head back on my shoulders in 1985 and went to work at Consolidated Freightways and enrolled in air conditioning school. Things were great until 1992 when they forced us to drive sleepers. I was gone all the time and found myself single again. I got custody of the kids in 1995 which prompted me to take a leave of absence from work. I had planned to come back to driving when my kids were old enough to stay home alone, but they shut the company down in 2003.

I was an AC service technician from 1988 to 1991 and I became a licensed contactor in 1991. I've been doing AC work full time since the summer of 2004. It's not a great living but pays the bills.

School Story:

In 1957 we lived on Sandra Drive and my mom enrolled me in Haley Elementary but I never attended. They had a new home under construction and the officials allowed us to start school at Central Elementary where I spent all six years. The first two were at the original Irving High School building called "Old Red" at Jefferson & Delaware. Grades 3, 4, 5, and 6 were on 9th street. Central eventually became Lee Britain.

Spent both Jr High years at Bowie. Don't remember much about it except the miserable football practices and driving the woodshop teacher crazy. What was his name? Billy Bertrand? Well, that's the name Bruce Burns spray painted on the side of the building! LOL

Which Elementary School(s) did you attend?

Central Elementary

Which Middle School(s) did you attend?

Bowie Jr. High

Do You see/talk to/hang out with our classmates? Who?

Over the years I have kept in contact with Eric Wood (long term care), Daryl Pokladnik, Donna Wahlstrom, Bobby Voelker, Ella Hood, Greg Cuicksa (1969), Tom Watkins, and Burt Lively. Others would include Ricky Mangum, James Sisk, Rebecca Roose (1969), Gary Andrews , Bob Hughs (Big Mac-1969), and Carol Douglas (Big Mac).

Since joining Facebook I would have to add another hundred names to this list.

What would we be surprised to know about you?

In 1993 my boss was considering hiring me into management at Roadway Express. He was going to fire a clerk, Bob Hughs, and give me his job. I didn't take the job.

Bob eventually became an ATM (assistant terminal manager) and was fired because he would not quit his part time gig as an Air Conditioning Contractor.
I went to work for Bob in 1989 and he became my mentor in the AC business.

What is your favorite memory of IHS?

Watching the football games and hearing that cadence played by the band as they marched on and off the field. Too bad they did away with that a few years ago.
Watching freshmen polish the school emblem after they walked across it and were busted by upperclassmen. lol

Who was our High School Mascot?

Big Irvi

Who was our biggest cross-town rival (in sports etc)?

The MacArthur Cardinals

Eric was a good friend during high school.  He became one of my best friends after the 25th reunion when we found out we were neighbors in Arlington.  He was an inspiration to me and always had something encouraging to say.  I'm not sure if I would have persued becoming a Mason had it not been for Eric's positive attitude.

I'm going to miss you, Eric.  May you rest in peace until I catch up with you.

Craig, I think I found Jimmy.  He should join us soon.
I'm sorry that I don't remember much about Debbie, but I know that you two are looking down from heaven anxiously awaiting our arrival.

Jerry! Sure am glad you found us, but you sure didn't elaborate on the answers...
Bengal Tiger? Yeah, we were the Tigers but the question was, "Who was the mascot?"
Don't you remember all those PRETTY BIG IRVI KEEPERS?
Well, I can't name them either, but they sure were pretty! And they were keeping
Big Irvi, our mascot!
It's not too late, you can elaborate on the answers...
Please don't shoot the camerman...

Craig,  your passing leaves me in sorrow.  I'll never forget the good times.
I remember we were always lined up across from one another in football, since you were left tackle and I was right tackle.  There were days when we practiced right after a good rain shower and the field was muddy.  Didn't bother Coach Perryman or Coach Roberson.  I know they couldn't watch all of us at the same time, but one muddy day Perryman was right behind me watching us and you lost your footing in the mud.  Somehow I wound up falling on top of you and Perryman made a bid deal of it.  He called Roberson over and said, "This is one way to block a defender!  Knock him down and lay down on top of him!  You guys get set!  Your going to do that again!"
We got set alright.  You fired off the line and almost knocked me out!  Realized right then I shouldn't be skipping weight training with Rick Mangum so much.
I admired your intellect and your business savvy.  I have a long way to do to catch up with you, but I've pretty much slipped into neutral so it'll never happen.  Let everyone know I miss them and,
I'll see you soon!

Eric, my prayers are with you. I am hopeful the therapy they have chosen works to restore your memory. So far, my cardiovascular system has been ok, but I'm day to day.
I miss you although I'm able to visit. Take care and I'll see you soon.
